Birth: Jan. 19, 1816
Laurens County
South Carolina, USA
Death: Dec. 11, 1892

Civil War Confederate Brigadier General. At the beginning of the war he enlisted as a Private in a Mississippi Regiment, until his friend Jefferson Davis recruited him to go to Louisiana to raise a regiment. In 1862, he organized the 28th Louisiana Infantry Regiment and was appointed Colonel. Gray's 28th saw action at Vicksburg and various battles in Louisiana. After his success at the Battle of Mansfield in April 1864, he was promoted Brigadier General but soon left the field when elected to represent Louisiana in the Confederate Congress. After the war, he was envolved in finances and served as a Louisiana State Senator. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
