John Richard Eckstein, youngest of a family of four children, was born at Darien, New York, March 27, 1863, and passed from this life at his home in Farnum, Nebr., Febr 12, 1929, age 66 years, 10 months and 16 days.

His parents died when he was a child, and he lived with his Uncle Leonard Hirsh, until he was a young man when he came to Iroquois, Ill. He lived with his brothers and sister there for a number of years. At the age of 14, he was confirmed in the German Lutheran church and remained a firm believer in the faith of his youth,

From Iroquois he came to Edgar, Nebraska then on to Farnum (sic) in the year 1892. Later he returned to Illinois and was united in marriage to Miss Mary Taylor in 1899.

He returned immediately to Farnam, his wife following a short time after, To this union was born two children, Jim H and Mrs Frances Jor**sen, both living at Farnam. Two brothers, John and George, have gone before. Those who remain to mourn his loss are his wife, two children and one sister, Mrs Barbara Reynolds, and a number of other relatives.

The entire community extends its heartfelt sympathy to the family in the loss of this loved one.

Funeral services were held from the Methodist church, Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with Rev C R Tanner in charge. The front of the church was literally a garden of flowers, silent and beautiful tokens of high esteem in which the deceased was held. Interment was made in the Farnam cemetery.
