George Irvin Johnson, son of Millard and Margaret Johnson, was born near Maryville, Mo., on April 13, 1881, and passed away April 20, 1945, at a North Platte hospital at the age of 64 years and 7 days. The last seven months of his life were spent in hospitals.
In the spring of 1890 he came with his parents to Frontier County, spending the past twenty-five years on his farm north of Stockville.
In February 1903, he was united in marriage to Clara McMichael, to which union were born seven children, five daughters and two sons.
Mrs. Johnson and one daughter Eleanor preceded him in death.
Surviving are Jennie Gardner and Dora Weiss of Farnam, Rebecca Metcalf of Woodburn, Ore., Irvin of Eustis, Donna Hinton and Millard of Stockville.
Besides his children, Mr. Johnson leaves four sisters, Mrs. Harry Messersmith of Farnam, Mrs. Susanna Lydic, Glendale, Arizona, Mrs. Willard Burton, Aberdeen, S.D., and Mrs. LeRoy Harrison, Alda, Nebr.; two brothers, Charles of Arlington, Calif., and Philip of Farnam; 17 grandchildren, one, Eldon Metcalf, serving in the armed forces oversea, and many friends.
Funeral services were held at the Congregational Church at Stockville April 23 at 2 p.m. with Rev. E. E. Geisler of Moorefield officiating.
Pallbearers were his two sons and his sons-in-law, Ed Weiss, Clyde Gardner and Dean Hinton, and a nephew Orvis Messersmith, music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. Jay Rice and daughter.
Burial was in Farnam Cemetery.
