Nina E. Martin, 86, formerly of Farnam, Ne., died Jan.7, 1999 in Gothenburg, Ne. She was born Jan. 12, 1912 at Barracksville, West Virginia, the ninth child of William and Sarah Soxman Hughes.
Her family was long employed in the coal mines, but they left W.Va. in 1921 moving to California. She graduated high school in 1930 at Burlingame, Calif. She attended San Mateo Jr. College.
In 1933 she traveled to Nebraska with her future mother-in- law, marrying Elgie Thompson Jan 12,1934 at Oberlin, Kansas.
Elgie preceded her in death in 1970. She married Jack Martin. Jack preceded her in death in 1988.
Suvivors include four daughters, Betty Hoppe-Stevens (Ken), Farnam, Sally Thomas, North Platte, Ruth Ann (Irvin) Hess, Farnam, Pat (Ron) Binning, Batavia, Ohio; four step-children, June Cooper, North Platte, Jerry (Sandra) Martin, Fairbury, Doug (Sue) Martin, North Platte and Norma Florom, McCook; two brothers, Don (Margaret) Hughes, Petaluma, Ca.,and Joseph (Elvira) Hughes, San Jose, Ca.; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandaughter; 11 step-grandchildren, 17 step-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, four brothers, husbands, a son-in-law and two grandsons.
Burial in Farnam Cemetery.
