Canadian Travel Pioneer. Born in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, in 1882, together with his family he traveled to the mountain community of Banff in the Canadian Rockies and established a dairy in 1886. In 1892, with his brother Bill, he began guiding guests of the Banff Springs Hotel to local fishing spots and scenic highlights to which is now Banff National Park. By 1916, he formed the Brewster Transport Company and acquired five overland motor coaches to replace the 70 horse drawn carriages, used to conduct sightseeing excursions. The expansion of the company by the 1930s, saw construction of the first lodge at Sunshine Village Ski Area, the Glacier View Inn and he started tours on to the Athabasca Glacier. In the following decade the Brewster Transport Company continued to expand the number and diversity of scenic tours, plus upgrade to bus line motor coach fleet. Upon Jim Brewster's death in 1947, control of the business was delegated to a group of appointed directors. The Greyhound Bus Line of Canada purchased the Brewster Transport Company in 1965.
