History:
He attended Akron High School and went on to have a long career at National Fuel Gas in Batavia, NY as a Mechanical Operator, retiring after 39 years. Mr. Jonathan was a long time member of the Tonawanda Indian Baptist Church in Basom, where he served as Deacon for many years. In April of 2006, he moved to Olcott, where he had the privilege of serving as Director of Ministries at the Niagara Bible Conference. Parker will be widely remembered for his gospel music, which was his passion in life. He enjoyed playing and singing in many marching bands and concert bands and especially enjoyed singing with his loving family. Parker performed with his wife, children and grandchildren at concerts across WNY, Southern Ontario and as far away as Massachusetts, Florida, Wisconsin and Minnesota. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Family:
Parker was the son of the late Foster and Hazel (Parker) Jonathan. Loving husband of Carole (Plummer) Jonathan, whom he married June 18, 1960; dear father of Parker Jr.(Paula) of Bremen, Ga., David (JoAnn) of Elba, NY, Mark (Charlene) Jonathan of Akron, NY and Kathy (Glenn III) Bloom of Medina, NY; proud grandfather of 6 grandchildren; brother of Dawn Lanick of Basom, NY, Dorthea (Hilton) Hill of Wausau, Wi., and the late Leila Mae Jonathan; uncle of several nieces and nephews.
Viewing info:
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 PM and Thursday at 7-9 PM in the Tonawanda Indian Baptist Church, 565 Bloomingdale Rd., Basom, NY 14013. Funeral service will be held Friday at 1:00 PM in the High Point Community Church, Rt. 5 near 77, Corfu, NY.
Burial:
Burial will be in Evergreen Lawn Cemetery, Akron.
