Carlyle B. Mitzell, 50, since 1958 a reporter for the Daily Record and its predecessor, The Gazette and Daily, died Friday at York Hospital.

Mr. Mitzell was the husband of Genevieve Skelly Mitzell of York.

He had acted professionally in New York, and was the brother of Cameron Mitchell, the movie and television star, of Pacific Palisades, California.

Mr. Mitzell was also a performer for York Little theater, and also wrote and directed several plays for that group.
He was an organizer and director of the first Southern York County Arts Festival, and had served as literary agent for the late poet Lee Anderson.

He was a member of York Local 218, the Newspaper Guild.
Mr. Mitzell attended Loyola University, Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, and Columbia University, New York City. He served in the Navy's pilot training program and in the Pacific Theater in World War II.

He was born in Chicora, Butler County, a son of the late Rev. Charles M. and Kathryn Ehrhart Mitzell.

Surviving also are a daughter, Bonnie Laurie Mitzell, and two sons, Michael C. and Marcus J. Mitzell, all at home; two sisters Iris Fries, Glendale, Calif., and Katherine Irwin of York and another brother, Channing Mitzell, Culver, Ind.

The Rev. Charles O. Zechiel, pastor of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Shrewsbury, will officiate at a memorial service Saturday at St. Paul's church. Burial will be in Joseph Giesey Memorial Cemetery, Shrewsbury, at the convenience of the family.

The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the memorial fund of St. Paul's church, or to the American Cancer Society.
