Singer. He was one of the founding members of the Blackwood Brothers Gospel Quartet along with his father and two uncles. His baritone voice anchored that part of the group's sound from 1934 until his untimely death in 1954. R.W. (piloting his own plane) and bass singer Bill Lyles were making practice landings in Clanton, Alabama after a concert appearance when the plane crashed killing both men and a young fan.
