He was later shifted to No. 8 as stoker on its steamer and shortly thereafter was promoted to engineer on pumper No. 4. Known to love the horses in his care he was also known as a very proficient fireman. In 1923 he was made chauffer on a pumper at station No. 4. Riney was killed in an auto accident on the way to a ballgame while off duty.
