Gen Zebulon York
Birth: Oct. 10, 1819
Franklin County
Maine, USA
Death: Aug. 5, 1900
Adams County
Mississippi, USA

Civil War Confederate Brigadier General. When the Civil War started, he was a plantation owner, formed Company F of the 14th Louisiana Infantry and was made Captain. In 1862, he led his company at the Battle of Williamsburg, the second Battle of Bull Run and was wounded twice. Promoted Colonel in command of the 14th Louisiana in August 1862, he led his troops at Antietam and in the Gettysburg Campaign of 1863. In 1864, he was promoted Brigadier General, participated in the battles of the Wilderness and was severely wounded in the Shenandoah Valley which
incapacitated him from any further field service. After the War, he returned to find his plantations destroyed, but began a life running boarding houses in Natchez Louisiana, until his death. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)

After the war you helped so many with your fleet of steamships plying the river with things people had been so deprived of during the war. Thank you for giving those somewhat of a new lease on life...
