Obituary:
The following account of the death of Clarence Beattie is copied from a Battle Creek paper published last Sunday. George C. Beattie brakeman with H.Bacon was killed yesterday morning at Mishawaka while setting out a car. It is supposed that he caught his foot in a guard rail and fell so that three wheels passed diagonally across the upper part of his body killing him instantly.
His body was brought to this city last night and taken to his home at No. 67 Hall Street. It is a very sad blow to the young wife, whom he leaves with a child only eleven days old. He was formerly connected with the mail service in Indiana and had been on the C&G T about six months, where he had made many friends by his gentlemanly demeanor. His remains will be taken on No 4 to Crown Point, Indiana his former home for interment today. His wife will be unable to accompany them. (7 June 1888 Register newspaper, Crown Point, Indiana)
