K. Dean Phipps, age 78, of rural Boone, died at his home on June 2, 2013.

Following his wishes, his body has been cremated.

A graveside service and burial of his cremains will be Friday, June 7, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Mineral Ridge Cemetery in Ridgeport. Rev. King Smith will officiate.

Dean was born in Boone on February 23, 1935, the son of Hugh and Charlotte "Lottie" (Adams) Phipps.

He attended Happy Valley country school and graduated from Boone High School in 1953.

On April 25, 1959, Dean married Sandra Lee Hagaman in Celina, Ohio.

Dean worked as a truck driver for 42 years and lastly for Mid-Seven Transportation in Des Moines, retiring in 1997.

He served a short time in the Iowa National Guard.

Dean was a member of the NRA, Boone chapter of Duck's Unlimited, and the Moose Lodge #104.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting, going to auctions, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Sandra. He is survived by a son David Phipps and wife Laura of Ogden; a daughter Leona Viau and husband Jim of Boone; a brother Don Phipps and wife Marlys of Ames; a sister Doris Phipps of Boone; and four grandchildren Jaden, Sierra, and Lila Phipps, all of Ogden and Sam Viau of Boone.
