Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. At the outset of the Civil War, he was Adjutant of the 1st Nebraska Infantry and was Acting Assisstant Adjutant General on the staff of Brigadier General John M. Thayer. He was made Colonel of the 50th Ohio Volunteer Infantry and was brevetted Brigadier General for gallant and meritorious services during the war. After the war, he resumed his career as lawyer and politician in Omaha, Nebraska.
