The End Came Last Evening - A Great Loss To Statesville
A telegram received in this city last night, announced the death of Mrs. P.B. Chambers, which occurred at her home in Statesville, last evening, at 7:00 o'clock. Mrs. Chambers had been ill for several weeks and her death was not unexpected.
With her, at the end, were her husband and all of her children: Mrs. R.A. Evans, (Maggie); Mr. Joseph Lenoir Chambers and Mr. Willoughby Erwin Chambers, of Charlotte; and Mr. P. Avery Chambers, of Statesville.
The deceased was Miss Justina Avery, a daughter of Isaac Thomas Avery, of Burke County, NC. She was approximately 70 years old.
She was the second daughter in a large family; however, her brother, Judge A.C. Avery, and her sister, Miss Laura Avery, are the only immediate relatives who survive.
After her marriage to Mr. Chambers, she lived in Iredell County for many years, and moved to Statesville in 1873. No resident of Statesville was better known or more beloved than Mrs. Chambers.
In church, charitable and social work, she was always prominent and her influence was ever for the good. In identifying her life with that of the community, she showed complete loyalty and in return, she received more affection and esteem than are usually given to one in life.
She was almost a life-long member of the Presbyterian Church. A Christian of sturdy, yet beautiful type. A devoted wife, a perfect Mother and friend.
