Indian Mutiny Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in Thurles, Ireland, he served as a Assistant Surgeon in the 90th Regiment of Foot, British Army. On September 26, 1857, Assistant Surgeon Bradshaw was ordered to remove the wounded men left behind the column that forced its way into the Residency of Lucknow, India. With the close proximity of the hostile sepoys, Assistant Surgeon Bradshaw with the dooly bearers came under attack and became separated from the rest of the party. He then gathered about twenty doolies, recovered the wounded and succeeded in reaching the Residency in safety by the river bank. For valor in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Victoria Cross on June 18, 1858. He died at age 31 in Thurles, Ireland.
