Owen was the second of eight children born to Maynard Solomon Jr. and Anna Caroline (Darrow) Bean. He married Kunie 'Kay' Sakamoto in 1960 and together they had three children: Roy Wesley, Ernest Keith and Susan Kay. Owen served in the US Air Force during WWII and the Korean War.

Funeral services for T. Sgt. Sylvester O. Bean, 37, who died of a heart ailment at his home in Great Falls Sunday, will be at 10 a.m. Friday from the First Methodist Church in Billings with the Rev. Vern Klingman officiating.
Burial will be in Mountview Cemetery with military rites.
Sgt. Bean was born Feb. 15, 1927 at Warren and attended Deaver, Wyo., High School and San Jose State College. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1944.
He married Kunie Sakamota in 1957 at Nagoya, Japan.
He was transferred from Misaua Air Force Base, Japan, to Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls in 1962.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Billings, the McGivern Gun Club of Great Falls and the First Methodist Church in Billings.
Survivors include his widow; two sons, Roy Wesley Bean, 6, and Earnest Lee Bean, 3; his mother and step-father, Mr. And Mrs. Joe Critelli of 730 Ave. F; four brothers, Richard Bean of 1702 Ave. E, Vernon Bean of 331 Broadwater Ave., Ernest Bean of 1744 Grand Ave., and Thomas Bean of Seattle; a sister, Mrs. Robert Reinhardt of Lewistown; a foster-sister, Tanya Critelli of 730 Ave. F; two stepbrothers, Sgt. Sylvester O. Bean, 38, 45 Cedar St., attached to the Office of Special Investigation at Malmstrom Air Force Base, died unexpectedly Sunday evening when he suffered a heart attack at his home.
The body will be sent to Billings by the Chapel of Chimes Funeral Home for funeral and burial, with arrangements to be announced.
Bean was born at Warren, Mont., Feb. 15, 1927, and he attended schools at Warren and at Deaver, Wyo. He had been in the Air Force 20 years, having served in the Philippines and other places in the South Pacific during World War II. He came here two years ago after a tour of duty in Japan. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge at Billings and the McGivern Gun Club here.
