Frances A.

(DiMatteo) Russo

Age 82, of Brandywine Hundred, succumbed to Alzheimer's disease on June 27, 2013 at Foulk Manor North.

She was born and raised in Marshallton (West Chester, PA). Fran was the daughter of the late Francisco & Rose (Ferri) DiMatteo. She graduated from West Chester High School and Marcello Beauty School, Philadelphia, as a licensed beautician. She married Michael J. Russo of Marcus Hook, and became a successful entrepreneur who ran her own business for more than 50 years until her retirement. Frances was an active member of Holy Rosary Church where her children attended elementary school. Her and Mike then became founding members of the Church of the Holy Child. She was an active member of the choir and altar guild, and could be found in the same seat every Saturday at 5 pm. In her last five years, Frances also enjoyed the blessings and fellowship of Christ Our King parish. She was an avid angel collector who often said "all of these angels are going to fly me up to heaven one day," and they have.

Frances was a true artist skilled in classic European thread work. She mastered most textile mediums including sewing, quilting, upholstery, smocking, knitting and crocheting. She amazed people with her Fair Isle sweaters and complex crossed-stitched angels, incorporating intricate beading and metallic threads.

Fran was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Rose Dimatteo, her husband, Mike ("Wiggins") and her brother, Paul DiMatteo. She is survived by her sister, Peggy Sgavicchio and brother, Albert DiMatteo (Doris) and sister-in-law, Nancy DiMatteo. She is also survived by her four daughters Michele Russo Biliski (Chuck), Paula Russo Dunne (Bill), Rose Russo, and Carol McCready Parrish (Mark). The pride and joy of her life were her seven grandchildren: Ashley and David Cahill, Sean McCready, Stephanie McCready Petry (Ray), Sarah Biliski Mazzarelli (Dan), Christan Biliski Casapulla (Sonny) and Ryan Biliski. She was also blessed with four great grandchildren Dominic and Elizabeth Mazzarelli and Madelyn and Brynn Casapulla. She is also survived by her special cousins Mary Boninu and Kathy Wiley, and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the compassionate and dedicated staff of Foulk Manor North, Seasons Hospice, and private duty aids Mel, Terry and Fran.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 2, at 11:30 am at Church of the Holy Child, 2500 Naamans Road, Wilmington, DE 19810, where family and friends may visit after 10 am. Interment will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery, 1050 Pottstown Pike, West Chester, PA 19380.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association , 240 North James Street, Suite 100A, Newport, DE 19804, Church of the Holy Child, Seasons Hospice, 220 Continental Dr., Newark, DE 19713 or Delaware Humane Society, 701 A Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.
