He was one of the thirteen children of Colonel Clement Biddle and Rebekah Cornell Biddle. Brother of James Cornell Biddle Sr.

He was commissioned as a Midshipman, US Navy on February 12, 1799, serving until he resigned on March 30, 1804.

Read law and entered the Pennsylvania Bar.

Commissioned Captain, Light Dragoons, on May 3, 1808, resigning on September 30, 1809.

Married Mary Searle Barclay on March 10, 1814.

Commissioned Captain, State Fencibles Company, 1814.

Commissioned Colonel, 1st Pennsylvania Volunteers, War of 1812.

Died in Philadelphia August 21, 1855.


He and Mary had three children:

1). John Barclay Biddle (January 3, 1815-January 19, 1879). Prominent Philadelphia Physician.

2). George Washington Biddle (January 11, 1818-April 29, 1897). Philadelphia lawyer.

3). Chapman Biddle (Jan. 22, 1822-December 9, 1880). Colonel, 121st Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, Civil War.
