John was the third of ten children born to Troy Thomas and Martha Caroline (Kirkman) Kivett. He married Hannah Elizabeth Hinshaw in 1897 and they were the parents of five children: Robert Wade, Sharrell Ercy, Swannie Ives, Jewell I., and Keith Gordan.

LIBERTY, Aug. - John T. Kivett, 79, retired farmer and roller mill operator, died this morning at his home on Route 1, Liberty after a long illness. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Hinshaw Kivett; two daughters, Mrs. K. M. Meyerhoesser of High Point and Mrs. W. C. Glassglow of Route 6, Burlington; three sons, R. W. Kivett of Route 6, Greensboro, Sherrill Kivett of Route 1, Liberty, and Keith Kivett of Route 3, Liberty; three brothers, Ed Kivett, of Route 8, Greensboro, J. T. and A. M. Kivett of Route 1, Staley; one sister, Mrs. Dora Ale of Los Angeles, Calif.; 11 grandchildren.
Funeral will be held at Shiloh Methodist Church Sunday at 4 p. m. with burial in the church cemetery.
