The death of Herbert L. Evans, whose home was Rexleigh in South Englewood, occurred at his home on June 9, 1927. Funeral services were held from Olinger's on June 11, and interment was at Fairmount. The cause of death was arterio-selerosis.
Mr. Evans was born at Mendota, Illinois, October 2, 1864. He and his family had lived in Colorado for nine years, and in Englewood for seven years. He was a man held in high esteem by his friends and associates. In traveling throughout the United States he made a study of industrial conditions, and was conversant with working conditions of all classes of people. He spent many years working in the interest of the common people. During the last few years he has lectured in schools and colleges on the Toten people of Alaska, to which country he had made several trips. The school children of Englewood were all familiar with Mr. Evans lectures and his frequent visits were one of the special pleasures of the school year. He also lectured to various organizations on economics problems.
He has surviving him his wife Amelia B., two daughters, Beatrice and Gladys, of Englewood, s son Herbert of Los Angeles, who was able to be here at the time of his father's death and a son, Harvey, of Oakland, Calif.
The family wishes to thank gratefully all the neighbors and members of Hawthorne Parent-Teachers Association, who helped with such thoughtfulness and kindness during the long time of illness as well as at the time of Mr. Evan's death.
