BROOKLYN BOY OF 15 KILLED UNDER TRAIN
Grant Hyde Code Jr., Erasmus High Student, Misses footing at New Rochelle.
NEW ROCHELLE, N. Y., May 17. Grant Hyde Code Jr. a 15 year-old high school student and a active member of the Boy Scouts in Brooklyn, was killed instantly here this morning while attempting to board a moving New York City,
The boy, who was the son of Grand Hyde Code of 1 Parade Place, Brooklyn, an official at the Brooklyn Museum, was a student at the Erasmus High School. He has been visiting friends in New Rochelle and was alone a the time of the accident.
He was seen to jump out of an automobile which had taken him to the station just as a Stamford local train was pulling out. He ran down the platform and made a flying leap for the front step of the second passenger coach behind the electric motor. Several station employees saw him seize the guard rail and then fall beneath the train. Three cars passed over his body.
The train had gained considerable headway and the motorman did nit receive news that the boy had been killed until he reached Pelham, three miles west of this city.
Under orders of Medical Examiner Amos Q. Squire the body was removed to the George Davis undertaking establishment.
At the home in Brooklyn of Mr. Code it was said that the boy had been visiting William Grant Lewi, a relative, at 139 Woodland Avenue, New Rochelle. A funeral service will be held this morning in the Lewi home and the body will be cremated. The ashes will be placed in a family vault in Pittsburgh.
