Mary Jo Fishback, 89, of Monroe City, Mo., died Friday, July 1, 2005, at the Hannibal Regional Hospital. Born June 2, 1916 in Lewis County, she was the daughter of James and Orella Parker Gruber. She attended Plano Grade School in Lewis County and graduated from Canton High School. On October 26, 1935, she married Albert Fishback in Lewis County. He preceded her in death June 18, 1978. Mrs. Fishback and her husband moved from Lewis County, to Renaselaer, Mo., in 1949 and later to Ely, Mo., to make their home and then to Monroe City after her husband's death. She was a member of the Monroe City First Baptist Church, Quinsippi Doll Club, Hannibal China Painters, and Womens Missionary Group and was past pianist at the church. Survivors include one son, Gary Fishback, Monroe City, Mo.; three daughters, Mrs. Judy Potterfield and husband Ren, Monroe City, Mrs. Joyce Franklin and husband Dick, Independence, Mo.; and Mrs. Peggy Freeman, of Monroe City. Also surviving are ten grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Isabel Martin and Mrs. Donna Briscoe both of Canton, Mo.; and Mrs. Ruby Dell Bronestine, Monticello, Mo. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one grandson Dan Freeman. Funeral services were Sunday, July 3, at the Monroe City First Baptist Church. Rev. Milton Baumgardner officiated. Burial was at Forest Grove Cemetery in Canton. Visitation was held at the Garner Funeral Home in Monroe City. Pallbearers were Phillip Potterfield, Jeff, Mike and Andy Fishback, Jamie Franklin, and Kevin Buckrucker. Memorials may be made to the Monroe City First Baptist Church Building Fund.
