John was the son of Walter and Mary Kochrosky Tollefson. He was a 2001 graduate of Goodrich High School in Fond du lac, Wisconsin. He went on to receive an associate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Fond du lac before entering the military. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, completing basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO., in 2004. He was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, with the 411th Military Police Police Company, 720th Battalion and the 89th Military Police Brigade. He was deployed in February 2005 to Iraq, where he proudly served his Country until the time of his death. The Army vehicle he was in hit a roadside bomb that had been planted there by extremists who are against our occupation forces that are in Iraq. He was a member of Holy Family Parish. Survivors include his parents, two sisters, Jessica Tollefson and Kate Tollefson, both of Fond du lac, Wisconsin, his grandmothers, Alice Tollefson of Mishicot and Delores Kochrosky of Maribel, along with numerous other family members and friends, and his feline companion, "Tubby". He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Oliver Tollefson and John Kochrosky and his uncle, Peter Tollefson. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on August 9, 2005 at Holy Family Parish-Sacred Heart Church, followed by military honors. The Rev. John Radetski officiating. About 450 family, friends and community members attended the service. Also in attendance were, Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle-D, U.S Rep. Thomas Petri, R-Fond du lac, along with other city and community officials. He was cremated and a private family burial was held later.
