Politician. John Quincy reached the rank of major in the British Army, though he was referred to as Colonel. He represented Braintree at the Massachusetts General Court from 1717 until 1740 and 1744 until 1748, serving as the Speaker of the House from 1729 until 1740. He was the son of Daniel Quincy (1651-1690), who was the son of Edmund Quincy Sr. and Joanna Hoare, and the grandfather of Abigail Adams and great-grandfather of 6th President of the United States, John Quincy Adams. The town of Quincy, Massachusetts named after him.
