He was the son of Daniel Quincy (1651-1690), who was the son of Edmund Quincy Sr. and Joanna Hoare, and the grandfather of Abigail Adams and great-grandfather of 6th President of the United States, John Quincy Adams. The town of Quincy, Massachusetts named after him.
