Mabel Luther Smith

Mrs. Mabel Luther Smith, 86, of the Haven Hubbard Home, New Carlisle, died at 4:30 a.m. today in Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born Jan. 9, 1884, near New Carlisle, she had lived in this area all her life.

In 1905 in South Bend she was married to Frank A. Smith, who died in Oct. 1943. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Ralph Sellers of Michigan City, Mrs. Carl Dettman of South Bend, and Mrs. William Connors of Cleveland, Ohio; two sons, Robert L. Smith and Charles Ott Smith, who is the manager of the Hollis Funeral Home, both of South Bend; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Carl VanNess of South Bend.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the H. C. Amen and Son Funeral Home, New Carlisle, where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Rev. Newell C. Liesemer, D. D., chaplain of the Haven Hubbard Home, will officiate. Burial will be in the New Carlisle Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Haven Hubbard Home. The Hollis Funeral Home, South Bend, also is handling arrangements.
