Geneva (Reed) Petticrew
June 14, 1928 - August 17, 2021

Wanda Geneva (Reed) Petticrew, 93, passed into the arms of her loving Savior on August 17, 2021, in Decatur, Texas, surrounded by nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 28, 2021 at the Gussie Ely Memorial Chapel at Ashland Cemetery with Brother Tracy Holcomb officiating. Burial to follow. Arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory of McAlester.

Pallbearers will be John McPhetridge, Josh Williams, Jason Ward, Johnny McPhetridge, Robert Goodknight, and Steve Barbee.

Born to parents John Wesley and Ethel Ivy (Wade) Reed on June 14, 1928 in Snyder, Oklahoma, Geneva was raised in Pontotoc County near Ada. She graduated high school near Lubbock, Texas, and graduated college in Plainview, Texas.

After years of being pen-pals through a USO program for servicemen during the war, Geneva met Ralph D. Petticrew, and they married on May 24, 1947 in Plainview. They lived and raised their two sons in Denton and Garland, Texas.

Geneva worked as a bookkeeper for Western Auto and as a volunteer at the Crisis Pregnancy Center. Ralph and Geneva retired to their homestead property in Stuart, Oklahoma in 1979.

Geneva enjoyed crocheting and singing in the church choir, and had a very tender heart for people and for all her many pets and farm animals. Like her mother, Geneva's strong faith was her foundation for living and she always spoke with kindness. Both Geneva and her husband were faithful members of Ashland Baptist Church, and active in the Stuart and Ashland communities, until the time of Ralph's death in 1996. Geneva later relocated to McAlester, Oklahoma where, for two decades, she enjoyed her community of friends and stayed involved as a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and choir until her recently declining health held her at home.

Geneva was preceded in death by her parents: John and Ethel Reed; husband: Ralph D. Petticrew; son: Michael Duane Petticrew; infant sister: Ruth Reed; sisters: Lois Goodknight, Johnie Owens, Beuna Barbee; and brothers: Reuben Reed and Douglas Reed.

She is survived by her son: Joseph Reed Petticrew of Portland, Oregon; grandchildren: Michelle Drawert, Lauren Clark, Spencer Petticrew; 3 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, other precious family members, and dear friends.
