American Journalist. Born Jack Worthen Germond, he was raised in Masachusetts, New Jersey, Mississippi and Louisiana. He attended Louisiana State University served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1947, and graduated from the University of Missouri with journalism and history degrees. Germond was a reporter for the "Rochester Times-Union" from 1961 to 1974, and was later an editor and columnist for the "Washington Star" and "Baltimore Sun". In collaboration with Jules Witcover, Germond co-wrote "Politics Today", a five-day-a-week syndicated column, from 1977 to 2000. Germond and Witcover also authored books on the US presidential elections from 1980 to 1992. He began to appear on NBC television's "Meet the Press" in 1972 and "Today Show" in 1980, offering his observations on American politics and current events. He began appearing on "The McLaughlin Group" when it started in 1981 and stayed with the show until 1996. His autobiography, "Fat Man in a Middle Seat: 40 Years of Covering Politics", was released in 1999. He also authored 2004's "Fat Man Fed Up: How American Politics Went Bad", and a novel, "A Small Story for Page Three", which was completed shortly before he died. In 2011 Germond wrote several pieces on the 2012 Presidential election for the online publication "The Daily Beast".
