The U.S. ARMY has identified a soldier killed last weekend in Iraq as Pfc. Hernando Rios, 29, of Queens.
Rios and Spec. Anthony Kalladeen, 26, both members of the New York Army National Guard's 69th Infantry Regiment, were badly wounded in an apparent ambush Sunday.

According to Army officials, their Humvee hit two roadside bombs. The soldiers then came under attack by insurgents firing small arms.

Rios and Kalladeen died from their injuries Monday, military officials said.

Rios' family could not be reached for comment yesterday.

Kalladeen's mother, Maria Vidal of Reading, Pa., said she was told her son was shot to death.

Three other soldiers also were wounded in the incident, one seriously. The other two already have returned to duty.

The deaths of Rios and Kalladeen bring the Iraq death toll to 10 for the famed "Fighting 69th."

More than 1,840 U.S. troops have died in the line of duty since the beginning of the Iraq war.
