Cemetery Book Records:
Son of D. & D. Barnhart
Age 3y 2m 28da

Provided by Contributor #47223271:

Isaac was the eldest of three children born to Daniel Barnhart and Delilah Oakes. His siblings: Nancy E. and Martha M.

His parents were married in Wayne County, Iowa on 1 Dec 1863. In the 1870 Federal Census, the family was living and farming in Union Township, Wayne County, Iowa with Isaac, 5 and his younger sister Nancy, age 3 in the household along with his great-grandmother, Susannah. There are three other Oakes households with properties next to the Barnharts in that record.*

His gravestone says Isaac died 12 Aug 1874.

In the 1880 census, his parents and two sisters had moved to Dexter, Cowley County, Kansas. They are found in the same community in the Kansas State Census record on 1 Mar 1895.

*In 1870, the other Oakes households referred to above were headed by Abraham and Cynthia; Isaac and Mary [little Isaac’s grandparents]; and Thomas and Rebecca. Abraham and Thomas were his uncles.

Contributor’s note: In addition to the death date, Isaac’s gravestone, recorded on 30 Jun 1976 by local volunteers, read that he was 3yr 1m 28d; however since the census is a more reliable record than a gravestone, his birth year can be assumed to be 1865 and knowing that, he would have been closer to 9 years old when he died.
