Albert was the oldest child of 5 born to Charles Martin Townsend, and Catherine Pullinger Townsend, Charles had immigrated from Frelighsburg, Brome, Quebec in order to learn the harness makers trade. Albert married Cora Belle in 1905 and they had one son, Charles Wilmarth Townsend. Cora died young and Albert married Fanny Weblaf. They moved to New Jersey and Albert was employed as a cost clerk in an electric company.
