As you can see from the names of his children below, this family was one of the several Witt descendant lines that changed their name to DeWitt. It is not clear if Benjamin and Olivia changed their last name or just some of their children. In 1829 several of their sons did so, but Benjamin was deceased at that time. All of his daughters married before 1829 so it is not clear if they changed their last names to DeWitt.
