Viola Lepinsky, age 96 of St. Ignace, died at Mackinac Straits hospital December 23, 2007. She was born in Grover, Wisconsin, near Peshtigo, on March 31, 1911 to Henry and Bertha (Schmeling) Polzin. She was one of seven children. Before her marriage, she worked for the 'Merryman' family, who worked in the lumber industry in Menominee, MI. She lived in the Merryman mansion, baking and preparing daily meals for the family.
She married Arthur Lepinsky on Jan. 26, 1933 in Peshtigo, and they lived in Escanaba and Engadine, then moving to St. Ignace in 1946. While in St. Ignace, she worked for Treasure Island Aquarium and McLaughlin's Drug Store. She was a member of the sewing and craft circle for many years. She loved to bake, especially for the Lutheran Church cookie sale. One of her specialties was Lady Baltimore Cake. She was a member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church and was confirmed April 5, 1925.
She is survived by a son-in-law Max Coburn of St. Ignace; four grandchildren: Sheryl and Mark Hitsman of Petosky; Mark and Sally Coburn of Chugiak, Alaska; Jeffery and Sue Coburn of Gaylord; Colleen and Mike Klamm of Clinton, Washington; 9 great-grandchildren; on great-granddaughter; a brother Wallace (Bernita) Polzin of Grover, WI and a foster brother August (Adeline) Tachmier of Peshtigo, WI. She was preceded in death by her husband who died Dec. 26, 1985, five siblings: Eleanor Arntz, Harold, Ervin, Willard and Lavern Polzin and her only daughter Anita Coburn who died February 25, 2000.
Services were hedlk at Zion Lutheran Church with burial in Gros Cap Cemetery.
