Hurdle D. Sampson, 76 of Coolville, RT. 2, died yesterday morning at the Veterans Memorial Hospital, Pomeroy, O., following an extended illness.

Born in W.VA., the son of the late Marshal and Anna Butler Sampson, he was an Army veteran of World War 1, a former coal miner and construction worker, and he attended the Cannan Baptist Church.

He is survived by his widow, Estel Groggs Sampson; five daughters, Mrs. Gladys Barton of Coolville, Mrs. Charles Weekley of Guysville, O., Mrs. Frances Benedum of Reedsville, O., Mrs. Robert Spradlin of Prestonsburg, KY., and Mrs. Herschel Smith of Mansfield, O., A son, Ricky at home; three brothers, Grealey of Chloe, Harley of Spencer, and Carl of Minnora; a sister Mrs. Cora Metz of Canton, O.; 20 grandchildren, four great grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were two sons and a brother.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at White Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Williams officiating. Burial will be in the Eden Cemetery, Reedsville.

Friends may call after noon today.
