Naturalist, Zookeeper and Writer. He was the brother of writer Lawrence Durrell. His best-known book is My Family and Other Animals. Also he wrote Birds, Beasts, and Relatives and The Garden of the Gods. He founded the Jersey Zoological Park on the Channel Island of Jersey in 1958. In 1982, he received the Order of the British Empire in 1982. The Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust, was established at his zoo, breeding colonies of endangered species. The movie Fierce Creatures was dedicated to him.
