J. M. Pearce, 72, of Corpus Christi, passed away at his residence Friday, July 16, 1993.
J. M. was born January 29, 1921, at Charco, Texas, in Goliad County. He received a Bachelors and Masters degrees from The University of Texas and did additional studies at Teachers College, Columbia University and Harvard University.
Mr. Pearce served in the Army Air Force as a pilot in the Troop Carrier Command flying mission in the European Theatre during World War II. He retired in 1985 from Corpus Christi Independent School District as Assistant Superintendent for Business after 39 years as an educator and administrator. He started his career in 1946 in Hebbronville, Texas, as a High School Principal and Coach. He moved to Corpus Christi in 1950 as High School Principal at Sundeen Independent School District and later became Assistant Superintendent and then Superintendent until the district consolidated with C.C.I.S.D. in 1958. He served C.C.I.S.D. as Assistant Personnel Director, Director of Research and Pupil Personnel Services before being appointed Assistant Superintendent of Business in 1971.
He was a charter member of the Midtown Kiwanis, a Past President and was Youth Representative of Kiwanis Club. He was a lifetime member of the "T" Association of The University of Texas as a baseball letterman, where he acquired the name of "Lefty" as he was known to his close personal friends.
He had remained active in the ranching business in Goliad County, Texas. He was interested in helping the youth in FFA in Vocational Agriculture, was warded Honorary Lone Star Farmer's degree, Honorary State Farmer and Distinguished Service Award for service in the advancement of Vocation Agriculture in Texas. J. M. was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, serving on various committees.
Survivors include his wife La Verne of Corpus Christi; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. Sunday, July 18, 1993[,] at Cage-Mills Funeral Directors, 4901 Everhart. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Monday, July 19, 1993[,] at St. John's United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Gene Bryant, Ed Schreder, Doug Shilling, Wayne Sheffield, Joe Parks, Tom Roberson, C.E. Haynes, ad Tunnell Reagan.
