TRIBUTE FROM HIS COMMANDING OFFICER
It is with deep regret that I inform you of your brother Sigurd O. Thorsen's death on 12 September 1945 in an automobile accident near Hönefoss, Norway.
Late in the evening of 12 September, Staff Sergeant Thorsen was performing an official trip to an Army installation near Hönefoss, Norway. As the vehicle rounded a blind curve, it met a horse drawn vehicle. The driver attempted to avoid it and in so doing, struck a small culvert and several large rocks causing it to overturn. Your brother was killed instantly.
With proper authority, the body was sent to Lervik, Store, Norway, the home of your sister, for burial. A group of Sigurd's friends accompanied the remains and provided an imposing guard of honor. Appropriate graveside services were performed by a civilian minister and Chaplain Wharton.∼Norwegian citizen. Lived in Richmond, Virginia. Died in a car accident.
