Indian Mutiny Victoria Cross Recipient. Born in Trent, Nottinghamshire, England, he served as a Private in the 2nd Battalion, Army Service Corps, British Army. On April 15, 1858, at Nathupur, in north-east India, Private Morley was part of a squadron with a military train of horse artillery of the 3rd Seikh Cavalry. When ordered in pursuit of a band of enemy Sepoys, the Seikhs were unhorsed and immediately surrounded by the enemy. Private Morley seeing a Seikh officer being attacked by the Sepoys, rushed up on foot to his assistance with a comrade and fought the attackers saving the officer's life until assistance came up. For gallantry in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Victoria Cross on August 4, 1860. After spending nearly 15 years in the Army, Morley was discharged in 1870. He died at age 58 in Nottinghamshire, England.
