Kenny spent most of his working years with the Franklin County Highway Dept. Some of his closest friends are fellow employees. Kenny liked to fish when he was able but his greatest satisfaction seemed to come from a good meal and he was not particular as to what it was. He also spent many hours with his guitar, sometimes singing to his two dogs, who were his constant companions.
Kenny never married, but while in the Meramec Nursing Center, he fell in love with at least a dozen of the female employees which made his stay there much more rewarding. His constant requests for hugs and attention seemed to be well received by most of the caretakers. He Obviously would want us to recognize those care-givers at this time for the wonderful job they did
Kenny is survived by his brother Wayne Schafer and wife Mary of Sullivan, a sister June Krause and husband Leman of Mt. Vernon, IL, a sister-in-law Betty Schafer of Sullivan, four nieces: Lisa Hampton and husband Rodney, Laura Knotts and husband Donald, Sheila Schafer and Mary Krause, six great nephews: Jeremy Slankard, Joshua and Jordan Bell, Aaron, Isaiah and Samuel Knotts as well as many cousins and friends.
Kenny was preceded in death by his parents and 3 brothers: Melvin, Fred and Earl Schafer.
