Wickliffchacin, 22, of Edmond, Okla., died Sept. 20 at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, of injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his dismounted patrol during combat operations in Pul-E-Alam, Afghanistan on Aug. 12. He was assigned to the 6th Squadron, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, Fort Stewart, Ga.

An Edmond soldier was awarded two military decorations posthumously, a U.S. Army spokesman said. Spc. James T. Wickliffchacin, 22, has been awarded the Purple Heart and the Army Commendation Medal of Valor, said Kevin M. Larson, public communications chief at Fort Stewart, Ga. James T. Wickliffchacin, 22, of Edmond, died Sept. 20 at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. Wickliffchacin died Friday at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, from injuries he suffered in a roadside bomb attack on Aug. 12 in Pul-e-Alam, Afghanistan, the U.S. Defense Department reported. According to his Facebook page, Wickliffchacin attended Edmond Santa Fe High School and graduated in 2010. He joined the Army in June 2010 and arrived at his unit in October 2010. He was assigned to the 6th Squadron, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division in Fort Stewart, Larson said. This was Wickliffchacin's second deployment. He was first deployed to Iraq from March to June 2011, Larson said.
