Father of First Lady Anna Eleanor Roosevelt and the brother of the Late United States President Theodore Roosevelt. He was very competitive with his older brother Teddy, and often succeeded Teddy and was thought to be the most promising of the Roosevelt children. He gained a drinking problem that resulted into alcoholism. No matter his disease, Eleanor loved her father deeply and would only comment on his positive attributes in life. He was also plagued with depression and tried to commit suicide by jumping out of a window. He survived the jump but died later from a convulsion resulting from the fall.
