Ms. McPhail was born in Halifax County on July 26, 1926 to the late Mr. Frank McPhail and Mrs. Lucinda Collins Green. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Alicia Carrington, and husband Ronald of South Boston; one grandson, Mr. Taurus Johnson, and wife Mary of Chantilly; one great-grandson, Alex Johnson, of Chantilly; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, one sister, Mrs. Parrilee Barnette, also preceded Ms. McPhail in death.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Sept. 29, at Memorial Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Terry officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family is receiving friends at the residence of Mr. Ronald and Alicia Carrington, 1025 Memorial Drive, South Boston.
Public viewing will be Saturday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home, South Boston.
