He had been a lawyer in Hannibal, Missouri, and later was Clerk of Circuit Court in Palmyra, Missouri. Was later elected to the General Assembly of Missouri. At the time of his death, he resided at 4928 Buckingham St. in St. Louis (possibly the address of the sanitarium in which he died).
