James Calvin McCall (1917-1965)
Annie Mary McCall Brown (1919-1978)
William Burton McCall (1922- )
Hugh Maxwell McCall (1925- )
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the death, Monday, at Birmingham, of Hugh McCall, there passed away one of DeFuniak's earlier residents. Mr. McCall, who moved from this city to Birmingham in 1917, had made his home here for many years. Among other businesses in which he engaged while here, was that of agent for Standard Oil company, and he, of his own initiative, established the first truck delivery of oil and gasoline in the county.
Fitting a 90-gallon tank on a model T truck he was able to cover his route in the county in one day, as compared with the week which it took using mule power. Deliveries at that time consisted of approximately 90 per cent kerosene and ten per cent gasoline, as compared to a switched proportion at the present time.
Mr. McCall was united in marriage to Miss Fern Head, of DeFuniak Springs, and to this union were born several children, who with the widow survive him. Other relatives include two brothers, Jeff McCall of this place, and Sam McCall, whose home is in Mississippi; three sisters, Mrs. Gussie Parker and Mrs. Bert Murray of this place and Mrs. Hamp Green of Pensacola, as well as other near relatives.
Funeral services were held for the deceased in Birmingham, the body being interred in that city.
