"Sarah A. Briggs was born in Westmoreland, N.Y., Feb. 21, 1827, being at the time of her death eighty-two years, four months and twenty-six days of age. Her mother died when she was two hours old, and a kind hearted neighbor took her and raised her as her own. She returned their kindness by taking care of them for eleven years, during the latter part of their lives. She was married to Benjamin Briggs on the 30th of December 1844. in Tioga, Tioga county, N.Y. in her seventeenth year, with whom she lived a happy life for sixty years. Her husband died April 11, 1904, in the eightieth year of his life. Since that time. until her death, she seemed lost, and felt the separation keenly, for they were greatly attached to each other, and during sixty years were never separated only by the death of him she loved.

In 1864 they came to Dakota, settled on a claim, and afterwards moved to Elk Point, where her husband went into the furniture business, which he followed until 1901. They then returned to Kewanee, where they had lived previously. In the fall of 1903 they moved back to Elk Point to pass the remainder of their days among those they loved.

After her husband's death, his body was removed to Kewanee, Ill., to be buried beside their daughter, where her body was taken Friday afternoon.

The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Clarence Greene, at the church of which she was a member for forty-three years, having joined in 1866. A large number attended the services and followed the remains to the depot. The entire community sympathize with the bereaved ones as well as losing a neighbor and a kind friend as one who was among us so long. So we will say:
'Let the veil of charity fall gently
On her who has gone before,
We'll leave it to God who do'eth all thing well,
When we meet, on that evergreen shore'."
