Belasco was the youngest brother of showman David Belasco. He brought several stars from the stage and made them stars in Hollywood. A few of his best known productions on the West Coast were 'Grand Hotel,' 'Cat and the Fiddle' and 'Devil's Plum Tree.' From the east he brought to Hollywood the likes of Edward G. Robinson, Frederic March, Lionel Barrymore, Boris Karloff and Edward Arnold.

He organized Belasco Productions Inc in San Francisco which didn't work out and disolved in 1925. He then worked with Fred Butler with capital furnished by E.L. Doheny and built the Belasco theatre in Los Angeles where they produced "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" which opened the theatre in 1926.
