Founder of Deutsche Grammophon. Pictured at right is Hannover City Plaque #119, commemorating Joseph, Emil, Therese, and Klara Berliner. It was placed on Joseph Berliner's home, called Villa Simon, on the Königsworther Platz in the Calenberger Neustadt part of Hanover. English translation: „Joseph Berliner lived here. Entrepreneur. Together with his brother Emil, the inventor of the gramophone record, he established the world's first record factory in 1898. Chairman of the synagogue. He lived here with his wife Therese (d. 1934) and their daughter Klara from 1895-1938. Klara Berliner was deported on 16.3.1943. She died in the Ghetto Terezín. The Villa Simon was designed in 1860 by the architect Heinrich Christian Tramm for the lawyer Eduard Simon."
