Symmes landed in Miami Township (Hamilton County, Ohio) in 1789 and platted out the town of North Bend, originally comprising 48 lots. One of his daughters, Anna, was married to President William Henry Harrison. Symmes' tombstone reads " Here rest the remains of John Cleves Symmes, who at the foot of these hills, made the first settlement between the Miami Rivers."
