Woman Struck, Dragged
By Auto, Fatally Injured
Funeral for Mrs. Susan C.
Turnpaugh Campbell, 78, of 616
North St., fatally injured shortly
before 8 a.m. Friday when
she was struck by a car at Sixth
and North streets, will be at
1:30 p.m. Monday at Fisher Funeral
Home. The Rev. Clyde
Mayfield will officiate and burial
will be in Davis Cemetery.
Her death was the third traffic
fatality this year in Logansport.
Mrs. Campbell, deputy in the
city controller's office, was on
her way to work when she was
struck by a car driven by Loren
0. King, 80, of 515 King St.
Four witnesses riding in a car
behind King's auto said Mrs.
Campbell was crossing North St.
from north to south in the crosswalk.
King was making a right
turn from Sixth onto North.
He told police he felt a bump
as he made the turn but that
he did not see Mrs. Campbell
at all. Police said the windshield
and side windows of King's auto
were steamed on the inside and
frosted on the outside.
Mrs. Campbell's body was
dragged under the car to the
alley behind King's Hatchery,
where King turned in and stopped
when a passerby yelled at
him. King is the owner of the
hatchery.
Police said Friday night no
charges had been filed. The accident
is still under investigation.
Born in Burnettsville June 23,
1887, Mrs. Campbell was the
daughter of Charles and Laura
Hardin Million.
Her first marriage was to Ross
Turnpaugh. She later married
Milford S. (Sam) Campbell, who
died May 25, 1961.
Mrs. Campbell, who was appointed
deputy city controller
Jan. 1, 1964, previously worked
for many years in the con
controller's
office under William
Jones and Fred Edgerly, former
city controllers.
A bookkeeper most of her life,
she also was formerly employed
at the old Finney Bakery.
She was office deputy in the
Cass county sheriff's department
under Sheriff 0. R. Carson.
An active member of the Republican
Women's Club, she was
Republican precinct commtiteewoman
for many years.
She was a member of Baptist
Temple, Mental Health Association
of Cass County and American
Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors are a half-sister,
Mrs. Betty Spencer, Rt. 6: two
half-brothers, Charles Million,
101 E. Main St.. and Mason
Million, 411 Wr. Market St.; a
niece and a nephew.
Friends may call at Fisher

day.
