My Dad served in the Navy. He never talked about it. I remember, the first time I noticed the tatoo, of the lady, on his arm, and I asked him about it. he said, that was his "idiot mark", he got, when he was in the navy.

My Dad was the best cook, I've ever known. (sorry, Mom!) He was not a sweets eater by nature, but, loved german choc. cake.
I remember that he used a can of beer in alot of the things he cooked. You wouldn't think it made such a delicious difference, but, it did!
He had his own resturant in FL. Just a little, diner, that did an outstanding buisness.

He loved to play pool, and golf. He was not the best loser!.HA- but,,that was my Dad!

He married my Mom (Shirley Eddie) when I was 13, and, my sister was 8 yr. old. This man,
was my Father, in every way that counts. They had one child together, (Kenny), and I can honestly say, my Dad, never showed and difference, in any of us, at any time.
They did divorce, (which broke my heart!!)- but, he remained "My Dad"- then, and, for always- he was-"PawPaw" to my daughters, thier whole life. If any of ya'll listen to country music, he was, the Dad "He didnt have to be"

Top picture is my Dad (isn't he handsome??) and his Mom, (my Grandma)- Vivian McMillian.
Lower picture is my Dad, and Mom (Shirley Baker)

Children, Pam, Mark, (from a prev. marriage) Kenny Dunn (with my Mom) - and a very special Father
to Trish (Holaway) & Wanda (Szarmack)- and, a very special "PawPaw" to my 2 girls. Thank you, Dad!!

I love you.

He Didn't Have To Be

When a single mom goes out on a date with somebody new
It always winds up feeling more like a job interview
My momma used to wonder if she'd ever meet someone
Who wouldn't find out about me and then turn around and run

I met the man I call my dad when I was five years old
He took my mom out to a movie and for once I got to go
A few months later I remember lying there in bed
I overheard him pop the question and prayed that she'd say yes

And then all of a sudden
Oh, it seemed so strange to me
How we went from something's missing
To a family
Lookin' back all I can say
About all the things he did for me
Is I hope I'm at least half the dad
That he didn't have to be

I met the girl that's now my wife about three years ago
We had the perfect marriage but we wanted somethin' more
Now here I stand surrounded by our family and friends
Crowded 'round the nursery window as they bring the baby in

And now all of a sudden
Oh, it seemed so strange to me
How we've gone from something's missing
To a family
Lookin' through the glass I think about the man
That's standin' next to me
And I hope I'm at least half the dad
That he didn't have to be

Lookin' back all I can say
About all the things he did for me
Is I hope I'm at least half the dad
That he didn't have to be
Yeah, I hope I'm at least half the dad
That he didn't have to be
Because he didn't have to be
You know he didn't have to be
