Sgt. Andrew J. Derrick of Columbia, South Carolina was born a son of Suzanne and Butch and was a 1998 graduate of Marion Military Institute and attended Francis Marion University. Joe played and lettered in football, baseball, & basketball. He was named Class of 1998 "Best All Around Athlete" and 1998 Alabama All Star Baseball team. Joining the SC National Guard where he was sent to Bosnia; he then joined the United States Army. Joe had proposed to his fiance Sgt Shaunna Miller. His Military ribbons include: Bronze Star, Purple Heart,Army Achivement Medal with oak leaf cluster, Combat Action ribbon, Korean Defense medal, Good Conduct Medal among others. Son, Brother, Friend, Soldier, Patroit. He was killed when his dismounted team came under attack by enemy forces using small-arms fire near Baghdad. He was 25.
